Growing up fairly sheltered, mostly around books and being encouraged to learn and grow, Ariel spent most of her youth in the library trying to learn what she could about the world. She was mostly drawn to info about tales of old battles and stories of Eorzea. Her mother often would tell her fairytales while Ariel helped her in the kitchen, though sometimes her daydreaming would lead to unfortunate mishaps (mixing up salt and sugar for instance) which would lead to silly lessons and scolding.Ariel tagged along on a research expedition to Idyllshire from her father about a year ago and overheard some murmurs regarding an academy that trains knights. Excited by the prospect and her imagination racing due to all of the fantasy tales she consumes regularly, she inquired about this academy and got her hands on an application.After returning home she brought it up to her mother and father who didn’t like the idea of training combat skills when they would rather her train in practical studies and apply at the studium.
Ariel pleaded with her parents to let her go and eventually after lots of protest they gave in and let her apply expecting her to be denied so they could move on as she has never so much as held a sword, much less real combat training.
A few months later, much to their surprise and Ariel’s delight she was accepted into the academy’s combat program and she hastily made preparations for her journey back to Eorzea for her new life and opportunities!
Her parents made her promise to write to them weekly detailing everything she’s up to and to be careful and stay safe and eventually return home.Upon arriving by herself in Eorzea she managed to get herself a job at a local cafe baking goods and serving smiles so she could have some extra spending money on top of the savings she was sent with to help her start out, but unfortunately most of her paychecks seem to go to her addiction to pudding and sweet buns, an often rare delicacy back home.
